Blown away
This unit replaced an older 55 inch set that was limited to 1080i resolution. I am not a guru but I did do some searching on the different types of units, plasma, lcd, led. Everything I saw implied that plasma while more expensive provided a better picture. Frankly the plasma appeared to be out of our price range but then Amazon dropped the price to a point where it was only $100 more than a Samsung LED. Boy are we glad. This unit is great. Delivery was very speedy. The guys who brought it to the door set it up and then cleaned it up.

PN50A650 Is The Best!
This showed up in my Gold Box in December (this is written in April; I wanted a chance to live with it for a while). Gee, I wonder how Amazon knew I wanted this very TV? Price was fantastic, and White Glove delivery was great; the only hang-up–it was chilly on delivery day, and the guy couldn’t turn the set on to run down his checklist. No biggie, but it was hard to wait for the set to acclimate before getting the chance to turn it on. There aren’t enough good things to say about it. Touch of color is very subtle and the clear band around the edge of the bezel is cool. After dialing back the settings for a break-in period (say what you will, I felt better doing it), I calibrated the set and am still amazed at the picture. High Def sources are excellent (over-the-air and U-Verse’s HD signal). Even component 480p out of the DVD player looks great. No Blu-Ray yet; waiting for another Gold Box deal. The sound isn’t world class, but I knew that going in and have a very nice amp and speakers for when it matters. Love this set–not like, love!

finding what I wanted after endless research against price I could afford
I have been on an endless search for a big screen TV since Christmas Last year. I have a great friend that owns a company in Allegheny, NY from which Amazon post’s their competitors sales price for product as sold in comparison to Amazon’s pricing. He told me that for the home entertainment TV’s Plasma is the best buy, for everyone is now moving on to purchasing the newer and hottest technology that the industry has to offer. He stated In either Plasma, or LCD SAMSUNG is the best in quality. They stand behind their product if it needs servicing and have the most service centers available over most other sets. Most people unless you are professional cannot distinguish pixilation differences between 720 dpi or 1080 dpi. Plasma in a darker viewing environment has shown me no difference in quality of picture. There are a couple of things that the newer models in Plasma or LCD over last years models have and that is in stead of having 4HDMI (av)connectors on newer sets you only have 2 on last years model. You do not also have the computer connection capability as on the newer models. If your looking for these Items go up the scale. remember thought the price goes up even more. I’m sure there are other things that are better, but for me this Television set is quality against quality at the right price, which to me was what I was interested in. I’m very happy at this time. Let’s see what kind of longevity this system has.
PS. last and most important to me My Friend from Allegheny Soundtrack said this was by the dollar one of the best deals he has seen. His base purchase price into his store was almost $100 dollars more than I paid for mine. Thanks Amazon. HDMI Could Quiet the Buzz
I have just purchased this TV set and it had a noticeable buzz, sufficient that I was going to return it. But my daughter noticed that it wasn’t apparent when she switched the input from the cable box to her Wii. Intrigued, I decided to fiddle with the connection before throwing in the towel.

I had the TV hooked up to a cable box with the component cords that came with the set. When I switched the TV back to cable input and disconnected the cable box the buzz was gone.

The manual suggested the best set performance would come from an HDMI hookup, so for about $5 I bought a cheap HDMI cable at a local electronics shop. Using the HDMI connection the buzz is gone, the only sound being a very low hum, which is exactly what you hear on the old CRT’s when the sound is off.

The manual clearly suggests that if you live well above sea level the set will buzz. But if you don’t (I live barely above sea level), do yourself a favor and try an HDMI hookup before you give up on what is otherwise an outstanding TV.

Great so far, especially given the price.
Just bought this hours ago at Walmart for $591 taxes included. I bought it for my bedroom to replace a 720p 32″ Polaroid LCD I bought 4 years ago. I have to say that so far I am quite impressed. I have another Polaroid 42″ 1080p in my office that I use as my computer monitor, plus for limited movie watching. This Samsung blows that Polaroid out of the box for regular cable tv watching, however, for High Def material they are quite similiar. The one thing that I didn’t expect was that the Samsung picks up digital channels flawlessly and without an antenna.

The Polaroids I have don’t and I have had to buy an antenna and they still have trouble picking up the signal. So far no problems with HD signals on the Samsung and I don’t use an antenna. That means more than 20 more free HI Def channels for me. Nice! Yesterday I bought a Sony Blu Ray player (BDP-S360)for $125 and I hooked that up to my new Samsung TV. The picture is flawless. Don’t really see the difference between 720p and 1080p.

The only downside I can think of now is the lack of HDMI inputs. No big deal though, I have a reciever that I run everything thru. Like the other reviewer mentioned, not much set up to do, I am using the factory settings for now, although I may tweek them later. Overall, nice addition to my bedroom. I may even switch it out with my Polariod and use it as my computer monitor, I do more TV watching in there anyways.

Awesome!
Picture quality is unbelievable. I love the built in art gallery. Looks like a wall painting. Very thin. No buzzing sound. I turned the volume all the way to 0 and still did not hear any buzz. So they may have fixed that issue for my TV. Coolest feature was… it was able to play most of my videos right from an external hard drive. Now I can have all my home videos and pictures in one external hard drive. I have not used the internet feature yet.
Overall a great TV. I feel this TV is same or better than samsung LED’s in picture quality and still is very thin 1.2″

Killer TV at a GREAT price.
I am very pleased with my new Samsung 58″ plasma. Clear, crisp, vivid… it is a GREAT TV. Slim and worked great with a Samsung Blu Ray enabled DVD. I like the slim dimensions, and the picture is unbelievable. Remote is intuitive and using the HDMI hook up to my A/V receiver, replacing my old TV was very easy.

This Is a Great Set!
After getting this set I could not believe I waited this long to purhase a flat panel tv. The colors are so vivid it is almost like looking out a window. The audio is acceptable. Amazing picture – good menus – very, very pleased
Here is the short-n’-sweet:
Getting a screen size of this, a plasma was the only way to go…forget Mitusbishi and those DLPs or Lasers screens. LCD still cannot produce an image like a plasma nor keep up with motion fields. I like watch the football fly through the air and still have it look like a football. This thing fields at 600Hz. Sorry 240+Hz LCD still not good enough for me for clean motion.
Screen-burn has not been in issue. Samsung pixel-shift and scroll-mode repair takes care of it. I even left a tivo menu on while I dosed off and thought I messed-up it good. Nope, nothing, nada. Left it on the screen for 30+ minutes too…
The bottom-line: Awesome. Very, very pleased…am I am one picky fella.
