Does A Lcd Widescreen Hdtv Look Bigger Than A Tube Sdtv If They’re The Same Size?
I want to get a new TV for my bedroom I currently have a 27 inch tube SDTV and I want to get a widescreen LCD HDTV The current tube TV is a nice size and allows me to easily see the TV from the opposite side of my room, so if I were to get a 27 inch LCD HDTV would it look bigger or smaller from the same distance? Thanks for the answers

It would look slightly bigger but the picture would actually be about the same.

No. The LCD will look smaller. You would need about a 32″ LCD to match the picture height of a normal old 27″ CRT.
The reason is that the 27″ is measured on a diagonal. Since the HDTV will be wide screen (16:9) , the picture height will be less than that of an old 27″ tube TV (4:3). You can calculate this using ordinary high school geometry, but you can go to the web site below they have a calculator to do the number crunching for you.
Either the 27″ tube set or 32″ HDTV will give you about 16″ of picture height.
