To Clarify LCD is not brighter than plasma – LCD suffers from low contrast and slow refresh rate. LCD uses liquid and Plasma uses gases. If you were in a race you would run faster through the air than through water. Water slows down and there for any fast motion on an LCD will apprear a tiny bit blurry. LCD flat panel only goes as big as 40″ in affordable sizes that is. Plasma starts at 37″. Plasma will have way better detail in dark scenes. Yes plasma can get burn in, but if you get a good one with white wash and pixel shifting and don’t pause video games on it you are fine. Also if you want to waste your money take the advice and buy a DLP – you will regret it later with the 1 million moving parts – no exageration!
Go plasma…
From a viewing perspective:
Plasma TV have better black levels and viewing angles.
LCD:
Have better colors, brightness and typically more pixels.
If you’re doing most of your viewing in a very well lit room a LCD would work better because it is a back lit technology.
If your watching TV mostly at night a Plasma would be better becuase the black/night shots in what you’re watching will look black not grey.
For the most bang-for-buck I’d go with a DLP. Arguably better picture than LCD and no screen burn-in like plasma and cheaper than both.
I personally would go with an LCD, they don’t produce as much heat, do not burn it like a Plasma will and the new LCD’s look great and have a much larger viewing angle than the older LCD’s used to.
I believe you mean “LCD” – liquid crystal display.

plasma tvs are gas filled making the image sharper.
lcds are filled with a kind of liquid that are in thousands of cells that are charged and non charged, they are slower than palsmas because of the response time.
